John Regan
Partner
Chief Investment Officer

Mr. Regan is founder, managing partner, and CIO of Permanens Capital and has over 23 years of investment experience in multiple asset classes. Prior to founding Permanens, he was a Senior Investment Officer at Cornell University’s $5.7 billion endowment, overseeing hedge funds, private equity, and overall endowment liquidity. Mr. Regan served as a member of the Executive Management Group in 2010, overseeing all endowment activities during the interim-CIO period. Prior to Cornell, Mr. Regan founded and was Managing Partner of Steeple Capital, a $600 million equity hedge fund with offices in San Francisco and New York. Mr. Regan also served as a Principal and Portfolio Manager with Andor Capital, a $12 billion long/short equity hedge fund. He held direct investment positions with Bessent Capital, JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management, Train Smith Investment Counsel, and began his career at Morgan Stanley. Mr. Regan is a Trustee of Poly Prep Country Day School, where he also chairs the Investment Committee; serves on the Board of Advisors of Athletics at Tufts University; and is a trustee and member of the Investment Committee of The Salvation Army of the US Eastern Territory. Mr. Regan graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's in Political Science from Tufts University, and received an MBA in Finance from NYU Stern School of Business.

Alan Alsheimer, Jr.

Mr. Alsheimer is a Partner at Permanens Capital. Mr. Alsheimer joined Permanens in 2015 bringing over 17 years of capital markets experience from across various fixed income trading and portfolio management roles. He previously held positions with direct investment responsibility at Argonaut Management LP, Goldman Sachs, RBS Greenwich Capital, Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley. Mr. Alsheimer is a Trustee of the University of Maryland, serving on both the Investment Committee and Real Estate Committee of the UMCP Foundation which actively manages the Endowment assets of the University of Maryland, College Park. Mr. Alsheimer is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park where he competed as a scholarship athlete on Maryland’s nationally ranked Men’s Golf program. He was a multi-year Letter-winner having earned multi-year All-ACC Academic Honors while making the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll each year. Mr. Alsheimer began his trading career on the interest rates desk at Morgan Stanley. He went on to construct multiple industry-leading client franchise trading businesses, having built the CDX trading business at RBS, followed by the LCDX business at Goldman Sachs. Mr. Alsheimer holds an MBA from Cornell University’s Johnson School of Management and resides in Manhasset, NY with his wife, Amanda, and their four young children.

Vince Logan
Senior Advisor
Tribal Wealth Practice

Mr. Logan serves as Senior Advisor for the Permanens Tribal Wealth Practice. He recently finished public service as Special Trustee for American Indians at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2014, Mr. Logan is the fourth person to hold that office. Calling on his financial and regulatory background, he led the Office of the Special Trustee in reaffirming its position as a leader in government accountability, Indian Trust reform and Interior oversight mandates. The office oversees approximately $5.2 billion in tribal trust assets.

Previously, Mr. Logan worked in New York specializing in both asset-based financing and asset management. As a lawyer, he practiced in aircraft and equipment finance at Messrs Schulte, Roth & Zabel. As an investment advisor, he focused on institutional asset management at the Merrill Lynch Private Bank and his own firm, The Nations Group, LLC.

Mr. Logan was educated at Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma College of Law and the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.  He is a Governor for the Oklahoma State University Foundation and is a frequent speaker at conferences addressing investment challenges facing institutions and individuals, including Native American tribal nations.  Mr. Logan also volunteers at youth events teaching financial skills and mentors Native American professionals.

Mitchell Westenberg
Operations Associate

Mr. Westenberg joined Permanens Capital in 2015 with over six years of operational experience, most recently from Conifer Financial Services where he provided endowment accounting and performance support for institutional investors.  Mr. Westenberg previously served as a financial representative for New York Life Insurance Company. He received a BSBA in Finance from Fordham University, and an MBA in Finance & Management from Binghamton University.

Tara Landau
Senior Controller

Ms. Landau joined the firm in 2016 bringing over 20 years of experience as a controller in the Financial Services and Real Estate industries. She most recently served for four years as a Family Office Controller for Ellington Management Group and worked directly for the CEO and founder. Prior to that, she worked for ten years as a Regional Controller for the Real Estate Division of The Trump Organization managing the accounting and finance functions for four legal entities and reporting to the CFO. Ms. Landau previously held Controller positions as UBS, Bear Stearns, and Kenmar Advisory Corp. She began her accounting career at KPMG, received her BBA in Public Accounting from Pace University, and is a NYS-licensed CPA (inactive).

Connor Carew
Investment Analyst

Mr. Carew joined Permanens Capital in 2016 and is currently in the process of completing his Bachelor’s degree in finance with a minor in accounting through Liberty University’s online education platform (graduating Dec. 2017). He competed as a student-athlete as a member of the Liberty men’s hockey team during his tenure on campus. Prior to joining the Permanens team, Mr. Carew spent time interning at a Rhode Island-based hedge fund, Providence Investment Management, and WhaleRock Point Partners.

 

Gary Yannazzo
Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Yannazzo joined the firm in 2017, bringing over 30 years of international and domestic experience as a Senior Financial Executive. He has served in the financial services industry, particularly, in the hedge fund and alternative asset management, real estate and commodity trading sectors. Previously, he served as  Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Board of EIM Management USA, and Global Partner of the $14 billion investment firm which specialized in customized fund of fund portfolios. He began his career at Arthur Andersen & Co's alternative investment practice. Mr. Yannazzo has held significant financial and operating roles in the financial services industry, including Senior Vice President of Smith Barney Real Estate Corp., President and Chief Executive Officer of Holland Mortgage Corp. and Chief Financial Officer for Kenmar, a multi-billion dollar fund of funds. Mr. Yannazzo also held Chief Operating Officer positions with Olympia Capital and Fulcrum Fund Services (two hedge fund administrators) in connection with each of their sales. He is the co-author of "Interest Rate Futures - The Corporate Decision" and serves as a Board Member and Treasurer of ARK USA, a charity devoted to transforming children's lives.

Philip Friedman

Mr. Friedman serves as Advisory Director leading Permanens' investment team in partnership with the CIO. He is also currently a Senior Advisor and Co-Head of the Aerospace and Defense practice at Perella Weinberg Partners. Mr. Friedman brings over 30 years of experience in sell-side analysis, investments, investment banking, consulting, and management having served at Perella Weinberg Partners in several senior capacities since 2006 with both the asset management and advisory businesses. Previously, Mr. Friedman served as CIO and lead Portfolio Manager for a $9 billion portfolio at John Levin/BKF Capital. He oversaw a $6 billion portfolio as Head of New York US Active Equity and sat on the Risk Management Committee at Morgan Stanley Asset Management. From 1995 to 1997, he ran the two-hundred-person North American Morgan Stanley Equity Research Department, sat on the Equity Commitment Committee, and founded and chaired the Stock Selection Committee. From 1983 through 1995, Mr. Friedman was on the sell side covering Aerospace and Defense at Drexel Burnham Lambert, Paine Webber, and Morgan Stanley, during which time he earned a number one ranking in both Aerospace and Defense Electronics. He started his career as a management consultant at Arthur Anderson Consulting in 1980. Mr. Friedman holds a Bachelor's in Economics from Rutgers University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Alex Goldfarb

Mr. Goldfarb joined Permanens Capital in 2014.  He holds a Bachelor's in Economics from Tufts University where he minored in Art History. Mr. Goldfarb competed as a student-athlete as a member of the Tufts men's varsity basketball team for four years.  Since completing his degrees, he has interned at Gilder Gagnon Howe & Company, a long/short investment management firm, and Dillon Hill Capital, a family office investing in public and private debt and equity securities. Mr. Goldfarb currently serves on the investment committee for Poly Prep Country Day School.

Rich Mormile

Mr. Mormile joined the firm in 2016 with 14 years of analyzing and investing in hedge funds. He spent the past four years building an investment and advisory business focused on emerging hedge fund managers. Mr. Mormile most recently worked at Burnham Asset Management where he was the Head of Research and Co-Portfolio Manager of the Burnham Emerging Managers Fund. He previously worked at Revere Global Advisors, a boutique research and investment firm focused on emerging hedge fund managers, where he was responsible for manager sourcing and co-managed the Revere Emerging Managers Founders Fund. From March 2008 through August 2012, Mr. Mormile was a Senior Research Analyst at EIM Management (USA) Inc., responsible for sourcing and monitoring equity long/short, event driven, and macro managers. Prior to joining EIM, he spent six years as a Research Analyst at Pioneer Alternative Investments, primarily covering equity long/short and event driven strategies.  Mr. Mormile started his career at Momentum Group in 2002.  He received a BA in Business Economics from Brown University in 2002. He also holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation.

Salvatore Coluccio, CPA
Assistant Controller

Mr. Coluccio joined Permanens Capital in 2013 and is a licensed CPA with eight years of experience in personal taxation and family office accounting. Currently, he manages the investment accounting services for Permanens' largest family office client. Mr. Coluccio previously served as an Accountant at Rockefeller & Company. He received a BBA in Accounting and an MBA in Taxation, Finance and Investments from Bernard Baruch College, and is a licensed CPA in the State of New York.
